Dear Friends,
I know many of you are still enjoying summer. My kids were forced back into their school chairs almost 3 weeks ago (yes, I am still bitter) and we are back to it. Back to early wake ups and making lunches, nagging about homework and practicing instruments. Summer is wonderful because you can just forget about all the ‘must-dos’ for a little while and just go catch a frog… Unless you are me, in which case you’ll close 5 deals and pick up another 3 (not bitter about that!). I did not get a vacation this year, but I did get to spend some very important time with my family on the East Coast. I goofed around (see above), and got to watch my boys be fully absorbed by their giant, loving, kind, amazing family.
It was not an easy choice to move across the country. It’s one I have questioned many times and there are myriad elements that went into the decision I made 23 years (and 5 houses) ago. Ultimately, it was the best choice for me, but I still feel the sacrifices every day. Sacrifices I mitigate by 3 weeks back east every summer, a weekend spot in the desert, and a borderline obsession with planting trees wherever I go.
I think that’s why I have no problem telling my clients to weigh the elements and make the choice that’s best for them. Ultimately, only you can make the choice that is best for you, because only you are aware of all your priorities. I’m here to give a perspective you might not be getting elsewhere… and ideas to mitigate the sacrifices because, as we all know, nothing is perfect.
Until soon,
Emily
